The Ranger Wrestling Club is focused on providing opportunities for boys and girls in kindergarten through 12th grades in Loudoun County and the surrounding areas to excel in the sport of wrestling.We provide opportunities to train and compete in three styles of Wrestling.They are Folkstyle and the two Olympic styles (Freestyle and Greco-Roman).
We offer three programs for our wrestlers:
Matmen Program:Our Matmen team is for beginner to intermediate wrestlers in kindergarten through 8th grades.This team competes in the Northern Virginia Wrestling Federation.Practices are held 1 to 2 evenings a week at local Loudoun County high schools.Competitions are held at high schools throughout Northern Virginia on Saturdays or Sundays beginning in mid December and ending in early March.At the competitions wrestlers are placed in groups of 3 to 4.These groupings are determined by age, weight and experience.The wrestler then competes with everyone in their group.Awards are handed out at practice following a competition.Everyone receives a ribbon.
Ranger Select Program:Our Ranger Select program is for experienced wrestlers ages 7 – 15.This team competes in the Capital Area Wrestling League (CAWL) and open tournaments throughout the Mid-Atlantic.The CAWL is a highly competitive league consisting of teams from Maryland and Virginia.Teams compete against each other head to head in 19 weight classes during the months of January and February.In March, an individual tournament is held.The top 8 place winners at each weight class have the opportunity to compete in the Maryland/Virginia State Championships the following week.
Weight classes for the 2009/2010 season are: 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 110, 115, 122, 130, 145, 165 and 200lbs.
High school wrestlers under 15 are allowed to compete as long as they haven’t wrestled a Varsity match for their high school team.
During the spring the Ranger Select wrestlers are given the opportunity to compete in National caliber tournaments throughout the country.This past spring Ranger Select wrestlers competed in various national caliber tournaments in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Ranger Elite:Our Ranger Elite Programprovides and opportunity for high school wrestlers to train and compete during the off season.In the spring the group practices 1- 4 days a week.It also competes in various individual and team tournaments along the East Coast.This past spring members of the Ranger Elite Program competed in the National Duals, South County Duals and several individual tournaments.
During the fall (preseason) practices will be held twice a week.They are focused on preparing the wrestlers for their upcoming winter season. In the past we have brought Olympians, National Champions and All-Americans in to train our wrestlers during the Fall preseason.
