Kurt, Cade and Gene at the 2010 Ohio Tournament of Champions
Ranger wrestlers competed in the prestigious War at the Shore, Ohio ToC and MAWA Eastern Nationals wrestling tournaments in April and May.War at the Shore:
Michael Hulcher made the trip to the Jersey Shore to face some of the toughest kids in the country. Michael didn't place this year, but will continue to work towards getting on the stand at national level competitions.
Ohio Tournament of Champions:
Cade Kiely, Kurt McHenry and Gene Quodala made the trek to Columbus, Ohio to compete in the Ohio Tournament of Champions. This was Gene's first national level tournament. He didn't place, but got a good idea of what the big tournaments are all about. Cade and Kurt competed in both the individual tournament on Saturday and the team dual meet tournament (for VA Powerhouse) on Sunday. Cade wrestled at 90lbs for both. Kurt wrestled at 50lbs for the individual tournament and 55lbs for the duals. Both boys wrestled well, beating some tough really kids, and losing some real nail bitters. Cade didn't place and Kurt took 6th place. Neither of the boys obtained the results they were expecting, but they all wrestled well and have nothing to be ashamed of.
MAWA Eastern Nationals:
Gene Quodala was the first Ranger Wrestling Club member to qualify for the MAWA Eastern Nationals in Salisbury, MD. Gene took first in the district and 4th in the Southern Regional qualifying tournaments. Gene competed at the Bantam division's 56lbs weight class. Although Gene did not place at the Eastern Nationals, he gained valuable experience. He will be ready for the 2011 tournament.
Other Ranger wrestlers to compete in the MAWA tournament series were:
Ryan Brokay - 1st districts, did not place in regionals
Kurt McHenry: 2nd districts, did not compete at regionals
